We Need to Talk” (April) – Ageism

Last month, the UN released its Global Report on Ageism. For the first time ever, ageism is being addressed world-wide with evidence-based research and recommendations. It may be surprising for some to discover that one out of every two persons is biased against older adults. But ageism cuts both ways. It affects young and old and impacts us individually, societally, and economically.

For our April 21 “We Need to Talk session”, the Executive Director of the National Institute on Ageing (NIA), Michael Nicin, has agreed to be our special guest. The NIA is a Ryerson University think tank focused on the realities of Canada’s ageing population.

Michael has kindly agreed to remain with us until 1:30.  This extended dialogue will allow him more time to share his thoughts and insights. Breakout rooms will wrap up before 1:00pm, as usual, to allow those with tight schedules to leave; however, the conversation with Michael will continue.  We hope that many of you can arrange to stay online.

Join us to unpack some of the Report’s findings and discuss why ageism is the only “ism” that continues to be socially acceptable. How can we change this? Let’s figure it out together.

Hosted by Helen Hirsh Spence, founder and CEO of Top Sixty Over Sixty, these empowering, monthly Zoom-based sessions tap into the thinking, knowledge, attitudes, and perspectives of everyone present.
